Notes
Ledger with leaves numbered only on the back and the list of owners at the end, organized in alphabetical order by surname and presumably drawn up by librarian Rodolfi ; according to the original numbering, although counted, the first three leaves are not numbered; title leaf decorated with an incomplete diamond-shaped border (only one side is coloured red and green), with eight point stars in the corners and the coat of arms of the Community in the centre depicting a grape vine wrapped round a pole fixed in the ground; capitals in red; 19th century board binding, with leather on the spine and the corners. The volume, which until now has been kept in the Biblioteca Comunale di Vignola (inventory n. 6005) has been rehoused in the archives.
In the Ledger in which the accounts are kept of the money that the stewards spend… (reg. 25) among the expenditure for the second half of 1584, dated August 3, the following items appear: "5. and further on the third day of August for a book in which to write the valuation covered by red leather and strap five lire and fifteen soldi” (64r.) and “20. and further on the said day forty lire were paid to Master Pedro Antonio Muntagnani for writing the valuation” (64v.)

Cowhide ledger with leaves numbered only on recto (n. num. the first and the index) and an alphabetical list of the name of the owners organized in the form of an index (leaves I-XVIII): the latter, found in a miscellaneous folder (263), has been placed again with the register it refers to. As it is a register of the owners of Basse di Vignola, in which are reported the valuation entries according to the measurements of the surveyors delegated for such work, to establish the distribution of the levies owed by the owners for the “fabbrica della Morra”, namely the building work to defend the lands from flooding by the Scoltenna; deed of Domenico Belloi di Pietrercole, as clerk of the works of the “Morra” (September 25 1691).
Incipit: “Invoked the Most Holy Name of Our Lord Jesus Christ the year of his glorious birth one thousand six hundred and ninety-one the fourteenth indiction, Tuesday the twenty-fifth day of September […] This is the Valuation or Register of all the properties of the lower territory of the Municipality of Vignola estimated and surveyed by the magnificent messieurs Giovanni de Giacomi of Savignano and Carlantonio de Rè of Castelvetro, public surveyors and valuers elected, and sworn in by deed by me, by messieurs Assonti for the work of the Wall already successfully started to protect the aforementioned properties from invasions of the River Scoltenna, drawn up and ordered in order to settle the distribution of payments and shares of costs for the said construction of the Wall and other defences according to the fundamental Items of the said work included in the deed drawn up by me on the eleventh day of September 1688 …”

Register with no binding with leaves only numbered on recto and an initial list of the leaseholders, organized in alphabetical order, but partly mutilated (leaves 3-4); according to the original numbering leaf 5 was torn and the following leaves were missing 33-34, 36, 39, 41-42, 98-99; it contains the addition of the new leaseholds for the year 1725 (leaves 93-94) and records of payments of ground rents paid in the years 1746 and 1750, the incipit is inscribed on a scroll decorated with an embellishment in sepia Indian ink and light polychrome water colours.
Incipit: “D.O.M. Valuation and survey of the lands known as berlete of the Illustrious Community of Vignola performed in the years 1723 and 1724 and in which will be recorded by the surveyors any new berleta in order to better settle the annual ground rents […] made by me Domenico Maria Bonora on the instruction of Mr Gaetano justice of said Community”

Register with unnumbered leaves, composed as two indexes bound together, organized in alphabetical order by surname; it reports the taxes levied in 1741 for the year 1740 and in 1742 for the year 1741, with the recording of late payments until 1746; the year 1741 begins with leaf .37.
Incipit: “Book in which shall be faithfully recorded all payments made by individual owners of the Muncipality of Vignola for the general Valuation of the year 1740, according to the compendium of monies made by Mr Francesco Pattini, calculated as L.5 15 for each soldo, exacted by me Camillo Bazzani, deputy. Such book shall be drawn up according to the aforesaid compendium, sent by the general Valuation Office of Modena on the second day of [December] 1737. In this book the entries shall be increased or reduced according to the orders of the Illustrious Magistrate”

Register with leaves numbered only on recto and list of leaseholders at the beginning indicated in the order mentioned in the volume (leaves 1v.-3r); according to the original numbering the first three leaves are not numbered; records are kept of the payments of ground rent and some conveyances until 1784; among the loose leaves there is a printed circular of Giandomenico Barberi, clerk to the General Administration of the Magistrate for Military Quarters to the governor of Vignola, concerning the payment of part of the tax on the general valuation (1 September 1760), Modena).
Incipit: “ On the 16th day of July 1759. Valuation, and surveys of the lands known as berlete of the most illustrious Community of Vignola made in the present year both in the “Basse” and “Basse di mezzo” as well as in Upper Vignola and Zinzano, made by me the undersigned [Carlo Andrea Aurelij, public surveyor], on the orders of the aforesaid Community under the syndic Doctor Giuseppe Plessi and the most worthy steward Domenico Galli, who will see item by item the number of acres (biolche), and the neighbouring owners, and the ground rents to be paid annually, namely three soldi per biolca; and if the aforesaid owners do not pay for a year, the second year they shall pay the double, and if they do not pay for three years the Community shall take possession of the aforesaid …”
